Last updated on: 01 April 2020
Due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and travel restrictions placed by IIT Bombay, the FOSSEE Summer Fellowship 2020 will be offered remotely. The FOSSEE team will contact the selected candidates through emails soon.
Screening Tasks:
There are two screening tasks mentioned below.
It is recommended that you choose and complete any one of the screening tasks.
Selection Procedure:
The selection procedure will be based only on the performance of the candidate in the screening level tasks. Candidates have to do Part A and Part B compulsorily for the fellowship.
Part A: Solving design examples
-
Solve any 5 design examples given here using Osdag.
-
The 5 design examples should be from 5 different modules.
-
For each of the design example, save the input file (.osi file) and design report (pdf).
-
While creating the design report in Osdag, give the company name as your college name (in short form), group/team name as your name, designer as your id number, project title as Osdag FSF, subtitle as Part A, job number as the example number and client as FOSSEE.
Part B: Optimize design examples using hand calculation and creating design report
-
Solve 4 design examples (2 examples from each of the following two Groups) given here and optimize the material requirements using hand calculation. You have to perform 3 or 4 design trials and compare results to arrive at the optimum result.
-
Group 1: Select any two from the following modules:
-
Fin plate Connection
-
End Plate Connection
-
Cleat Angle Connection
-
Seated Angle Connection
-
-
Group 2: Select any two from the following modules:
-
Beam to Beam Cover Plate Moment (Splice) Connection
-
Beam to Beam Extended End Plate Moment (Splice) Connection
-
Design of Axial Tension member
-
Design of Axial Compression Member
-
-
-
The design examples solved using hand calculation should be checked for all the necessary design and detailing checks (as per Indian standards). It is necessary to provide 2-D drawings/images wherever necessary.
-
Make a report (pdf) of your hand calculated design using LaTeX (no other format other than this will be accepted for evaluation).
-
Make separate TeX files for each example. You may create tables to compare design outputs of different trials for optimization.
Technical requirements:
Civil/Structural Engineering with proficiency in design of steel structures using IS 800:2007 and working knowledge in LaTeX.
Procedure to Submit:
-

Evaluation Criteria:
Following criteria will be considered while evaluating the flowsheet:
-
Clarity and sequence of design checks followed as per IS 800 for Part B
-
Proper justifications for selection of optimum design result.
